자랑하다, 뽐내다

 

 

자랑하다라는 영어표현은 show off 외에도 많습니다만, 일상생활 대화에서는 압도적으로 이 show off를 씁니다. boast, brag, be proud of 등 있지만 show off가 어감으로 가장 구어적이고 편합니다. 그래서들 많이 자주 쓰지 않나 싶습니다.

우리말 으스대다에 가깝습니다. 과시하다는 직역에 가깝겠군요.

이 show off는 영어 드라마든 영어 소설든 종종 접하게 됩니다.

의문문 형태는 이렇고요. 소녀의 말이 너무 어려워서, 해킹 관련해서 뭐라뭐라 술술 말하죠, 일반인은 무슨 말인지 하나도 알 수 없죠. 그러자 그 말을 들은 일반인 성인 남성이 한 말입니다. 지금 자랑하는 거야? 그러자 소녀가 끝내 인정하죠. I guess I am.
